Each ANAM musician’s recital is a snapshot in time - simultaneously summarising their year of training and revealing glimpses of their future selves. What music excites them? And, in 2024 the ANAM Set is back in a special iteration. Musicians in their 3rd year of training present a specially commissioned work as part of their recital program.
Violin Sonatas Old And New
"This program samples some wonderful Violin Sonatas, beginning with the third violin sonata of the great J.S. Bach. This sonata contains the longest fugue Bach ever wrote for any instrument or combination of instruments. Next, we hear Peter De Jager’s homage to Bach in an innovative and evocative solo sonata where baroque polyphony meets heavy metal head-banging. Lastly is Prokofiev’s dark and epic Violin Sonata No. 1."
