Stefan CASSOMENOS, PIANO

Stefan Cassomenos is an Academy Musician in 2008 and studies Music and Law on a Faculty Merit Scholarship at the University of Melbourne, majoring in performance.

He has been a semi-finalist and prize winner in both the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition (2005) and the Australian National Piano Award (2006). He has performed concerti with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, the University of Melbourne Faculty Orchestra and the Chamber Strings of Melbourne. He has also performed as a soloist in St Petersburg, Tallinn, Warsaw, Krakow, Athens, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, London, Bangkok and Tokyo. Stefan recently performed a solo piano recital in London in connection with the Tait Memorial Trust. In Musical Opinion, a leading British classical music magazine, his performance was described by John Amis as ‘alive, passionate, and dramatic … as if the pianist’s life depended on it.’

In 2008 he will be studying at the British School at Rome on a two-month scholarship sponsored by the YMFA Inc. and working with renowned pianist Marcella Crudeli. Stefan is also a keen composer and his works have been performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. His latest composition was performed by The Yarra Trio on 4 September 2007 at the Blue Diamond and was a great success.
