Ruben PALMA, CELLO

Cellist Ruben Palma grew up in Canberra, where he was a student of Lindy Reksten. His primary teachers have been Georg Pedersen, and Owen Carman. Other influences have included Uzi Wiesel, and Julian Smiles. Ruben spent the greater part of 2006 as an international student at the Meadowmount School of Music, in New York State. At Meadowmount, he also studied chamber music with Kathryn Votapek, and Ann Setzer. Ruben placed 1st in the u18 division of the New York ASTA National Solo Competition, and was a prizewinner at the 10th Annual Sphinx Competition. Ruben been the recipient of major scholarships and prizes from Musica Viva, the Sydney Cultural Council, the Sydney Conservatorium High School, the Australian String Academy, the Meadowmount School of Music, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, the Potter Violin Company, and the Australian National University. As a tertiary student at the Canberra School of Music in 2007, Ruben studied piano with Geoffrey Lancaster.

Ruben joined the Academy in 2008 and is currently studying under Howard Penny.
