Rosie SAVAGE, FRENCH HORN

Rosemary's interest in music began at age six when she started learning the piano. Through primary school she dreamt of learning the French horn and becoming a professional horn player, however, it wasn't until high school that she was able to start lessons on the horn which quickly became her main instrument.
In 2000 she commenced her Bachelor of Music on horn at the Victorian College of the Arts. Studying under Russell Davis she completed this degree with honours in 2003. Following that she taught horn at various schools including Eltham High School, Glen Waverley Secondary College, Presbyterian Ladies College, Christian College of Geelong and St Kevin's College. While Rosemary enjoys teaching, she loves the buzz of performing so in 2005 she embarked on a Masters in Music Performance degree, studying under Geoff Collinson, at the University of Melbourne.
Since then, Rosemary has continued teaching and performing freelance with various Melbourne orchestras, opera companies and musicals such as Phantom of the Opera. She is on the casual list for Orchestra Victoria. Rosemary has also been a member of Australian Youth Orchestra, the most recent project she participated in being a workshop with The Cat Empire.
Rosemary has a particular interest in chamber music and has been involved in various chamber projects. As a member of Shrewd Brass (Musica Viva) she performs in schools and has toured across NSW and VIC. Rosie in 2008 successfully auditioned as a casual member of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Delighted to be studying at the Australian National Academy of Music, it is Rosemary's aspiration to achieve a balance between performing chamber music and orchestral music.
In 2008 Rosie is a Musician of the Academy.
