Madeleine Boud began her violin studies aged four. In 2001 on completing her Tertiary Entrance Examinations in Western Australia, she was selected for the Performing Arts Perspectives Showcase for gaining outstanding results in music performance. A keen orchestral musician, Madeleine Boud was a member of the West Australian Youth Orchestra Association from 1992 to 2001, taking part in regional, national and international tours as a principal player. She also took part in a number of AYO programs, often as a principal player, including National Music Camp in 1999, 2000 and 2001, the Chamber Music Development Program with Peter Sculthorpe at the National Gallery, ACT (2001), and the Australian Youth Orchestra tour seasons in 2000 and 2001. She has worked with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra, and the ANAM Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Philharmonia Choir (Sydney) and the Melbourne Chorale.
Madeleine has participated in many chamber music performances and projects, notably with the Brisbane-based contemporary chamber music ensemble ‘Mercury’, presenting performances of works by George Crumb and Elliott Carter, as well as recording Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony for Melba Recordings. In 2005 she co-founded the new media arts/contemporary chamber music collective ‘Rhombus Room’.
As soloist, Madeleine has appeared with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Youth Orchestra, performed regularly as part of the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, been broadcast on ABC Classic FM and participated in masterclasses with Pinchas Zukerman, Boris Kushnir and Felix Andrievsky. In 2003 she was an artist at the Blackwood River Chamber Music Festival, and performed as part of the 2006 Melbourne Arts Festival in the contemporary music concert series at the BMW Edge.
In June this year, Madeleine appeared as soloist with the Australian Ballet and Orchestra in two seasons at the State Theatre in Melbourne, performing the Bruch Violin Concerto for a newly commissioned ballet ‘Paquita’, as well as in ‘After The Rain’, Christopher Wheelan’s ballet featuring solo violin works by Arvo Part. She has also won numerous prizes in competitions and eisteddfods, most notably winning third place in the prestigious Gisborne International Music Competition in New Zealand, 2003. She has completed a bachelor’s degree with honours at the Australian Institute of Music studying with Alice Waten, with whom she continues to study with as a full-time scholarship holder at the Australian National Academy of Music. She has recently been accepted as a casual violinist with the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Madeleine will this year be attending the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra under full scholarship under the direction of Pierre Boulez.
Madeleine is the recent recipient of the first place award in the South-East Queensland Concerto and Aria Competition.
