Lucas O’Brien has been involved with ANAM since 2003, where he was awarded a MasterCourse Scholarship, and commenced his studies there in 2006 whilst completing his Bachelor of Music Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts.
At the age of three Lucas began learning the violin, subsequently studying with Semyon Kobets and Michel Brunsden. After completing his secondary education, he relocated to Sydney to pursue further studies under the guidance of Alice Waten at the Australian Institute of Music.
He began his association with the Australian Youth Orchestra in 2003, and has appeared as concertmaster of the VCA Symphony Orchestra. He then went on to perform as part of the 2005/06’ concert series held at the National Gallery of Victoria and the 2006 Rippon Lea concert series.
Winning the Sixth Grade AMEB Violin Prize (1999), The Inaugural Male Metropolitan Choir of South Australia Music Scholarship (2001) and The Chamber Music section of the 2006 Athenaeum Club Eistedford are amongst his many achievements. He was also awarded the Kaye Scott Instrumental Scholarship to Ormond College in 2005/06’.
