Dean NEWCOMB, CLARINET

Dean Newcomb began studying the clarinet at the age of nine, subsequently receiving many awards in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod Solo and Championship sections and the Queensland Clarinet and Saxophone Competitions. At the age of 15 he gained his AMusA on clarinet, and LMusA in the proceeding year. Dean Newcomb completed a Bachelor of Music, Advanced Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium in 2004 studying with Floyd Williams and Brian Catchlove. He participated in many Conservatorium ensembles playing Principal Clarinet in the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and Wind Symphony. Since 2005 Dean Newcomb has studied at the Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne with David Thomas and has received tuition from respected Australian and International Clarinettists including Frank Celata, Catherine McCorkill, Paul Dean and Professor James Campbell. Since relocating to Melbourne he has performed as a casual member with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and as guest Principal Bass Clarinet. In 2006 and 2007 he was a National finalist in the Geelong Advertiser Music Scholarship, and in 2007 a Wind finalist in the Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year Awards. Dean Newcomb has had many solo and ensemble performances broadcast on ABC Classic FM and 3MBS FM.
