Claire Herrick returned to the Australian National Academy of Music as an Academy Musician in 2006 having been involved in programs at ANAM since 1999. Born in England, Claire began violin studies at the age of seven. At 14 she was awarded a distinction in her AMusA and commenced her involvement with the Australian National Academy of Music. The following year Claire Herrick was awarded a Melbourne Symphony Young Artist Award, recording the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto as soloist. Subsequent prizes include the Mars Young Performer Award, Waverley Rotary Club Award, and Hermia Barton Award
At age 16 she was awarded first class honours in the University of Melbourne Program for High Achieving students and was a prize winner in the Hepzhibah Menuhin Memorial Award.
In 2002 Claire Herrick performed in Brisbane as a recitalist in the National Youth Concerto competition, and in 2003 travelled to Salzburg with other Academy Musicians to receive tuition from Yair Kless at the Mozartium Summer School.
She commenced her Bachelor of Music with Alice Waten in 2004 at the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney, completing it at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2006 with high distinctions in music performance, whilst at the VCA she was awarded the Atheneaum Club violin for 2005/2006, the 2006 Atheneaum prize for chamber music, appeared as concertmaster of the VCA Symphony and Chamber orchestras, and performed in the Melbourne International Arts Festival with Chamber Music Australia.
In addition to the Melbourne Symphony Claire has performed as soloist with the Melbourne String Ensemble, Frankston Symphony Orchestra, Preston Symphony Orchestra, the Victorian College of the Arts Symphony Orchestra, and in 2008 performed as soloist with The Melbourne Musicians Orchestra.
Claire has also performed in the National Gallery of Victoria VCA concert series, the Art Gallery of New South Wales Sunday concert series, and performs for the Robert Stolz Music Society. Claire has been featured and broadcast on 3MBS FM and on 'rising stars' on ABC Classic FM,
In 2007 Claire won third place performing the Bruch violin Concerto in the Australian Concerto and Vocal Competition (Townsville) winning the Santalucia Property Group Prize.
In 2008 Claire was a semi-finalist in the Kendall National violin competition.and as a finalist performer in the 2008 National Geelong Advertiser Music competition has recently won the Alastair Scott Prize.
