Chloe Smith started playing double bass at the age of thirteen. Studying with Yuri Frolov, she was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School where she completed her secondary education. During this time she performed with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra and the Victorian College of the Arts Orchestra.
In 2004 Chloe Smith began a Bachelor of Music Performance (Improvisation) degree at the Victorian College of the Arts, studying jazz and improvisation with Gary Costello. She changed to the repertoire course in July of 2005, at which time she began having lessons with Steve Reeves, Principal Double Bass of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
She has performed in master classes and workshops with Alex Henery and Paul
Ellison and regularly as Principal Double Bass with the Victorian College of the Arts Orchestra. Chloe's interest in contemporary music has led to her involvement with groups such as the Astra Chamber Music Society and in performing premieres of works by Melbourne composers including Jo Selleck and James Rushford. In 2005, as a member of the Prokofiev Ensemble, she was awarded the Atheneum Award for Chamber Music.
