Cameron HILL, VIOLIN

Since 2006 Cameron Hill has been an Australian National Academy of Music Academy Musician studying with Alice Waten. In 2006 he graduated from the University of Melbourne studying with William Hennessy (1999 – 2005), completing the Bachelor of Music with Honours and topping the year. In 2005 he won the national Dorcas McClean Violin Competition, Australia’s leading string award.

At five he commenced violin studies with Cathryn Bills, completing the Trinity College of London examinations. During his time at Balwyn High School he completed Music: Solo Performance (VCE) achieving a perfect score and topping the state in 2000. The same year he was awarded the Licentiate (L.Mus.A) with Distinction, on viola. While studying at the University of Melbourne he appeared as concertmaster of the Orchestra (2003-2005), was a founding member of the Melbourne University Chamber Orchestra and was heavily involved in chamber music.

Cameron Hill was recently named the 2006 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year after winning the Stage IV Grand Final with a performance of the Stravinsky Violin Concerto with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. 

Solo engagements in 2007/08 include touring with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Australia Pro Arte, the Stonnington Symphony and the Australian Youth Orchestra. He plays regularly as a core member of Australia Pro Arte and is also a member of the Hamer Quartet. Cameron recently appeared as Guest Concertmaster of the MSO.
