Bing XIANG, VIOLIN

Born 1987 in China, Bing Xiang began learning the piano at four years of age. At the age of seven, Bing began taking up the violin with his father, a year later beginning his lessons with Jung Sook Yoon (MSO).
In 1998, Bing was offered a music scholarship at Camberwell Boys Grammar where he would attend school for the next 4 yrs participating in the middle school ensemble/orchestral projects.
In 1999, Bing was accepted to study with Prof. Kek Tjiang Lim, (violinist/conductor). The following year, he attended his studies at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School studying with the Head of Strings Miwako Abe at the same time receiving weekly master classes with Prof. Lim.
At the age of 15, Bing was awarded the Australian String Prize of the Year. In 2003-04, he was the finalist in the National Youth Concerto Competition performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Queensland Youth Orchestra under the direction of John Curro. In the same year, Bing took first prize in the Preston Concerto Competition performing with the local orchestra. In 2005, he was selected as a finalist for the Kendall National Violin Competition. At the same time, completing his VCE and moving in to the Territory Bachelor of Music Course, receiving a first year scholarship.
Bing was recently accepted into the Australian National Academy of Music and currently studies violin with Nelli Shkolnikova.
