Amy Furfaro began playing the violin at the age of six. From 1997 to 2003 she studied violin with Moirsheen Kelly. She has spent the last four years studying with violinist Miwako Abe at the Victorian College of the Arts, where she completed her Bachelor of Music Performance with Honours in 2007. As a recipient of the 2007 Kate Flowers Memorial Scholarship, Amy traveled to Sion, Switzerland to participate in a Master Course with Professor Mihaela Martin, leader of the ‘Quatuor Michelangelo’. She also attended the class of Gyorgy Pauk as part of the London Master Classes at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
As a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra in 2006, Amy completed a placement with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra as part of their Orchestral Career Development Program. She was also one of a select group of AYO musicians to perform at a dinner in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen, at Parliament House, Canberra.
In addition to her commitment to the Australian National Academy of Music’s Advanced Performance Program in 2008, Amy will again appear as a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, and will complete a second placement with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
