In response to COVID-19 ANAM has made the decision to cancel all public events up until 20 April. We will be in contact with all ticket holders. For more details click HERE.

One of the planet’s greatest violinists, Anthony Marwood, returns to ANAM to lead an exceptional program for strings.

  • The concert includes one of the world’s favourite pieces of classical music, Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending
  • Soviet composer Raskatov’s bitter-sweet homage to Mozart is a spellbinding delight, and a complement to Stravinsky’s tribute to Tchaikovsky – the divertimento drawn from his ballet score The Fairy’s Kiss
  • If you’re not familiar with the Two pieces for string octet by the young Shostakovich – he wrote them in his teens – they are an amazing discovery in their dramatic contrast of wistfulness and manic energy

Don’t be fooled by the bucolic mood of Vaughan Williams' masterpiece, The Lark Ascending. Williams wrote the piece on the eve of World War I as his country was entering a difficult time in its history. Watch this 2015 video of the Australian Chamber Orchestra performing the piece.
